Character Name: Sealand

Personality:

Upon encountering Sealand, the first few words people might use to describe him may be enthusiastic, friendly and ambitious. Of course, by the same token, others upon meeting Sealand may find him annoying, obnoxious and overbearing. Sealand is certainly a very loud nation, constantly trying to make himself heard above others, always determined to make himself known. He’s a micronation; a self-proclaimed nation with only four citizens, using an abandoned sea-fort off the coast of England as land. No other nation recognises Sealand as a nation, and as such he goes out of his way to try and change that, in his open, friendly and big-hearted way. All Sealand wants most in the world is to be taken seriously by others.

Sealand can hold a bit of a grudge. He resents his brother England for refusing to recognise him and always being quick to dismiss or tear down any attempts to join other nations. Such as when he tries sneaking into world or G8 meetings and attempts to get himself noticed and taken seriously. He calls England a “jerk” and is often frustrated by him. Likewise, England often appears irritated by Sealand’s bratty and childish ways. Despite this, Sealand relies on England more than he’d like to admit; he doesn't hate him at all either. He cares for his brother, only wants respect from him, but he wouldn't ever admit to it. Alternatively, he cares deeply for his adoptive father Sweden but isn't afraid of showing it, though his papa sometimes has to compete with the TV for his attention. Sweden and Finland are two of the most important people in his life and he loves them both dearly, spending a lot of his time at their houses as opposed to his own.

He has a competitive side, too. He loves the other micronations, his friends, but when he first met Wy, for example, he found himself jealous and clearly distressed that she had already been recognised. Despite this, he soon seemed to forget any issues he had with her, and they became good friends. He’s one who can easily bounce back from such things, being upset and near tears one minute and then quickly cheering up the next. Though he sometimes overreacts, he is natural leader and eager to give orders to others. He shows this in the “treasure box of countries” strip for example, when it is he who tells the others they need to go out and find new friends. Likewise, when he meets Iceland he tells him he’d like to act as his senior, his older brother, though that doesn’t go quite as planned, and when he meets Latvia, he ends up coaching him though Latvia was the one who had the intention of giving Sealand advice.

Like most kids of the modern age, he has a love of technology. He enjoys video games, surfing the web and television. When he came across Ladonia, a fellow micronation, though not liking him very much at first because Ladonia came across as quite rude and insulting, he soon warmed up to him when he saw Ladonia’s ability to transport himself into his laptop, proclaiming him “cool!” Sealand is always willing to make new friends. This is part of a strategy, knowing his ambition and determination to make himself known and thus eventually be recognised has a better chance with more people knowing who he is, but it’s also because he’s such an open and eager young boy, always looking for people to play and interact with. He is an active, ordinary twelve year old in that sense, believing he knows all about the world, enough to become a nation of his own, enjoying life and hanging out with his friends.

Though enjoying company and knowing teamwork can always be helpful, Sealand can still be a pretty independent individual, as he knows that too is vital to becoming an adult nation. He cleans and fixes his fort on his own more often than not, an expert around the nuts and bolts of his home by now. He often stays at the fort with a soldier/guard while his boss, Prince Michael, is away and uses the time to clean and fix up the place on his own. As he works, he’s often thinking up ideas and plans in his quest to be a nation. Other times, he’ll play – whether on his computer or outside, enjoying his free time. In that regard more than any other, Sealand is like any other child.

[It's a wonderful plan. They always are, in his opinion. One of them is going to get him recognised as a full fledged nation one day. This one, in fact - this is it, he feels like. Especially since he has so many friends on his side now. There's a World Meeting later today, and he and his friends are all going to be there to make their case!]

We just have to make a- a presentation! [He's telling Wy his plan on the phone, standing out on his fort's platform for a (sparce) signal. She sighs, sounding bored, though Sealand barely notices. He knows that she's excited on the inside.]

They do it all the time at World Meetings, I've see them. We can use Ladonia because he's also a laptop. [(Which Sealand still thinks is really, really cool.)] And when everyone expects some boring thing on global warming or the economy we can show them how awesome Sealand is!

[There's some protest from Wy and Sealand blinks, hovering the phone away from his ear while she yells.]

Oh, yeah, I know-- you guys too! But I have to go first because it was my idea. You'll tell the others, right? Seb and those guys? It's in Jerk England's place, so make sure you're all there this afternoon! [Wy agrees, as Sealand knew she would, and they say their goodbyes.

Sealand runs over to the boat that will take him to the shores of his stupid brother, feeling elated now. It's going to happen, and it's going to be great! He watches his fort, his home, disappear into the horizon as he sails slowly toward England. A sense of pride and hope fills him as he sees his country from far away. People are going to recognise Sealand one day. He's going to be big and powerful, they'll see. Everyone will see.]
